FRUIT MILKSHAKES: CREAMY, SLUSHY, ICE-COLD

Serves 2-4

adapted from The River Cottage Family Cookbook by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Fizz Carr

Milkshake purists will tell you that a milkshake is made with ice cream.  This creamy, slushy ice-cold shake is made with milk and frozen fruit. It is lighter with flavor that pops.  Berries, bananas, and stone fruits like cherries and peaches make delicious shakes.  Store-bought frozen fruit is just fine, but right now, peaches and berries are particularly tasty.  Buy some good local fruit and freeze it.

This is perfect to make with the children.

2 cups chunks of frozen fruit (berries, cherries, peaches, and bananas or a combination)

1 Tbsp sugar

1 1/4 cup whole milk

1.  LOAD UP THE BLENDER:  Place frozen fruit into the blender.  Add sugar and milk.  Cover the top of the blender and blend until the fruit is completely blended and the milkshake is smooth.

2.  SERVE:  Pour milkshakes into tall glasses and drink through straws.
