WHY DOSING LIVESTOCK WITH ANTIBIOTICS IS A TIME BOMB AND THE DENMARK SOLUTION

In the United States, most livestock, including milk-producing cows, are given regular low doses of antibiotics. It may make the animals fatter and healthier, but scientists warn that it is a threat to human health. When antibiotics are overused, new resistant strains of germs form.  The antibiotics become useless. Still, farmers will not willingly give up the practice. They contend that cutting out subtheraputic dosing of livestock will wreak financial havoc on the industry.  Denmark has been there and done that and has shared the results:

The lesson is that improving animal husbandry—making sure that pens, stalls and cages are properly cleaned and giving animals more room or time to mature—offsets the initial negative impact of limiting antibiotic use. Today Danish industry reports that productivity is higher than before.

Scientists have known for many years that there is a link between artificial food coloring and ADHD.  A recent British study suggests the contrary.  Artificial coloring is made from petroleum and is added to processed food to make it look “fun”.  Crackers, fruit roll ups, cereal, juice, and even American cheese are visually enhanced with red #40, yellow #5, and yellow #6.  The FDA announced that it is “reviewing” the studies.  Do you need to wait around and see what the conclusion will be?  Read your labels. Even if your children are “fine”, why feed them petroleum at all?

THE GOOD NEWS

The good news is that you do not have to consume antibiotic-treated animal products, genetically modified food, foods with pesticides, animals created in a laboratory, or petroleum products. The bad news is that it takes time, money, and diligence.  Buy organic when you can. Read the labels on boxes.  Avoid buying food made in a petrie dish.  Put real food into your body.  Come back next week for a great recipe.

Peace and love from my kitchen to yours,

Waverly
